Fred Coyle was born in Akhiok and moved to Kodiak circa 1970. He now lives in Wasilla with his wife, Irene, with whom he has six children. He worked for most of his life as a seine fisherman. Fred learned Alutiiq from his mother and father, and has helped establish an Alutiiq language learning group in Anchorage in collaboration with his wife and John Yakanak.
